PSHE
Believe ~ Grow ~ Flourish
“Jesus came to give us life, life in all its fullness”
At Brigstock Latham’s we recognise that a high-quality PSHE education provides a foundation for children’s development as a future citizen and enables them to understand and respect who they are and their place in the world.
Pupils at Brigstock Latham’s are encouraged to embrace the topics covered in our PSHE lessons which are all relevant to the modern world. We want our children to take the opportunity to ask questions, to have their own voice, to develop their problem solving skills, to know how to interact with others and to build their resilience whilst still nurturing their physical and mental wellbeing. Ultimately believing in themselves to build upon their independence.
The ability to interact with and understand others is essential for all of our communications with others whether in person or on line. As a result of a high quality PSHE education Brigstock Latham’s, our children have the opportunity to develop as individuals so that they can grow to successfully navigate the world around them and to develop positive, healthy relationships with themselves and others.
Children at Brigstock Latham’s are supported to achieve through engaging with a PSHE curriculum which is mindful of the needs of our local community. Children are guided to develop their understanding of the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and the mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. All of these skills combined will enable our children to excel as responsible future citizens.
British Values
In line with DfE guidance we work actively to promote fundamental British Values at Little Stanion Primary School.
Maintained schools have obligations under section 78 of the Education Act (2002) which require schools, as part of a broad and balanced curriculum, to promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupil at the school and of society.
The key values are:
- Democracy
- Rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
Our curriculum prepares children for life in British society, this includes developing the understanding and use of money, effective reading and writing skills, collaboration and discussion to research ideas and concepts. Curriculum themes include local and National topics as well as comparisons with places on an international scale.
